Earlier this year Scotland was voted best in Europe for LGBTI, Equality and Human Rights. The 2016 Rainbow Index, compiled by the equality organisation ILGA-Europe, found Scotland continues to be ahead of the rest of the UK and all European Countries.

The above statement shouldn’t be a green light for complacency, as in Scotland there were 841 homophobic or biphobic hate crimes reported by police to prosecutors in 2014-15, and 21 transphobic hate crimes.

Scotland Glasgow, also celebrated Gay Pride on Saturday 20 August 2016 with an estimated 3,000 people turning out for the event despite the rain. Tesco in Renfield Street also had their sign in the traditional rainbow colours to show support to the LGBTI community, Asda donated a truck, Gordon St Coffee had a pride coffee and Pride Empire biscuits. Kerry Katona was a special guest at the Polo Lounge for Gay Pride 2016.
